As Billy wrote in his post, Visions of Angels...
Bear with us awhile longer.
As anyone who's been reading here lately knows, I wasn't exactly thrilled with the Genesis concert last Saturday night. The Skimmer has always accused me of wanting more than is possible. Of imagining that things are going to be far better than what could possibly be.
He knows me. And he's right. I always want magic. That's why I end up disappointed so much. But, not always.
I've had the great fortune of experiencing a few things that have turned out exactly as I imagined. And a couple that exceeded it. I can count on one hand how many times it's happened in my life. And because it's so rare, it makes each one all that more powerful. I'm lucky.
I may have been let down by the Genesis concert, but never by their music. As Billy wrote this morning...
...it reminds me that for all of humankind's faults, all our wars, idiocies, superstitions, hatred, and ugliness, people can still create art that moves the listener, that echoes within the small, still spaces of the heart, that set up sympathetic vibrations in your neurons....
.... Visions of Angels, indeed.
Have fun tonight, tonight, tonight, Billy. I imagine (but not too much!) that you're going to have a great time. Because they are going to play about the only thing you need...that perfectly sentimental, elegiac love song, framed in epic grandeur.
A song that has never ever let me down. It's always just as I imagine it to be. The video? Ehhhh, not so much.
