I love that song.

But since seeing the last American tour, I've been much more into the latter days Marillion.

Listening to them all day. The new album is quite fine, in fact, and my name is in the liner notes....

I love that song.

Me too, BP.

Why is your name in the liner notes?

On Marbles and the new one, Happiness Is The Road, they presold the albums (both double discs) through their web site to the diehards like me. Then they used the money (this was like a year ago) to finance the recording of the music. Plus, the advance releases are in boxes with deluxe booklets and artwork, kinda cool.

The people who ponied up a year in advance get on the liner notes. I'm in both of them.

It's a fan-based way of delivering the music without compromising on quality or depending on the financing of the Music Industry Weasels. And since the music industry kind of ignores them, it's a way of keeping up the job they love.

What was hilarious was on the last couple of releases, when they would notify fans of single releases; the fans bought the singles en masse, driving the singles into the charts with absolutely no music industry support. In England, the singles from Marbles hit something like #6 and #10.

That's really great.

Why has the music industry always sort of ignored them? Was it because they came too late to ride the prog rock wave? Were they seen as a sort of Genesis Jr.?

I don't know a lot about them. I just have this one album. Or CD. Or it might even be a cassette. lol. I've had it forever.

I know it's not an 8 track!

The two of you are going to create a 70's black hole in the intertubes.

Marillion is 90's, miss Goldfish Crackers.

I think it was because when Fish left the band, they were thought to be done and over. They bounced around a couple of labels, with no money for recording or marketing, and eventually were dropped by the labels. I think the band was just as happy, but had to find alternate ways of working.

They were always more ignored in America. Plus, proggy stuff is kind of uncool.

After a few albums, they started to really find a new identity with Anoraknophobia and marillion.com; Marbles really came together and the new one is really well put together. I haven't fully wrapped my gray matter around it yet.

First turtlenecks and now this. I am The Queen of Uncool.

I didn't even know who you were talking about when you said "Fish." So, I just read their Wikipedia entry.

I should probably listen to more of their stuff. Maybe even just the album/CD/cassette/8 track I do have. I'd always get stuck listening to Silkkimono/Kayleigh/Lavender over and over and never get much further...

(Please...no one tell Claire about this comment thread....)
