"It's already hard enough to open up your heart in this world -- don't make it any harder."
~ Mark Ruffolo's character, Paul, in The Kids are All Right in response to Laser's comment to Nic (one of his mothers, played by Annette Bening) after she sings a bit of Joni Mitchell's All I Want
Applause, applause - life is our cause
When I think of your kisses
My mind see-saws
Do you see - do you see - do you see
How you hurt me, baby?
So I hurt you too
Then we both get so blue
And when she's finished singing, and after a few seconds of silence, Laser turns to her and says, "Don't quit your day job, Mom."
Hurrah for Blue Girl!

That was an awkwardly fun scene.

Thanks for the hurrah, thunder!
Jennifer, it *was* awkward! You kind of wanted her to stop singing but at the same time you were mesmerized by it. I just really liked Paul's line. Plus, M Ruffolo delivered it so well -- his voice is like velvet.

I didn't love that movie, but I did like that scene.
