Up early, out on the porch, sipping coffee, watching the sun rise over the snow-dusted field, behind the old, dark, thickly-branched barren trees. A deep, rich, ruby red horizon, stretching left to right and out of view--slowly rising, exploding shades of gold, streaking rays of yellow turning into a vast white, lightly tinged-blue sky. A winter's day.
Grateful and alone in a cold day dawning. A good morning.
Pretty soon they're going to start charging you for these mornings.

I ain't paying for this kind of morning.
Hey Beege, I digitized that LP recently. It's got all the 'warmth' where warmth = pops, snaps, skips and rumble.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 20, 2012 at 10:20 AM
I know exactly what you mean by warmth. That warmth in those awesome, vinyl grooves.
I love "Stevie" Winwood. He went from cool hippie in the 60s/70s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN1J5sMv28Q) to cool elegance in the 80s.
Have always *loved* the phrase Arc of a Diver

I am mocking the argument about the supposed 'warmth', Beege.
Curse my writing for being unclear.
I titled my quick sketch of Jennifer's doggeh "Arc Of A Doggie".
Mostly, I am not a huge Steve Winwood fan. Right after Arc, he seemed to go old-hippie MOR easy listening, and I was going punk, so we grew apart. It happens.

Pops, snaps, skips and rumble = warmth to me!
You're a cold, cold Zombie. lol
I don't remember paying much attention to Steve Winwood much after Arc of a Diver. Madonna probably came on the scene so hot and heavy about that time that she *shocked* my system at that moment, crystalizing my "music period." It's probably why I don't venture much past that time with music at all. (As I've said before)
That. And Reagan.
Posted by: blue girl | January 20, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Let me clarify my Madonna moment:
The Beginning of the End.
(She is not part of my *music period*.)

Pretty sure you already know I love everything about this post.

Wow. You've missed a lot.
Let's start with Mumford and Sons.

Pops, snaps, skips and rumble = warmth to me!
digitizing LPS reminded me of how annoying that all is.
Also, the rest of the creatures in my house, including the cats and the fish, WALK LIKE DAMN RHINOCEROSES.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 20, 2012 at 01:15 PM
Reagan inspired some pretty good punk music. Thatcher too, for that matter (see the Elvis at my joint, which was originally written about her).
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 20, 2012 at 01:16 PM
Wow. You've missed a lot.
I know. It's like something zapped me: Don't tase me, Bro! And I didn't venture forth with music. I got stuck.
That's not to say that there aren't songs that hit me and meant something to me after that time.
Thinking of what Reagan inspired: That's when I started reading obsessively. And the Band Played On comes to mind. I think I switched from listening to reading. (Switched OCD behaviors)
I've never been much of a punk fan.
I like that Mumford and Sons song!

Yeah, I can see (hear?) that. Warm memory, tho.

Mumford and Sons is really blowing me away. They only have two albums out, and I can't wait for more.
Two other ones from last year that are knocking me out:
EMA
Florence & The Machine.

Don't mean to interrupt the ZMR/BG discussion, but lervely post.
Today we have SNOW!!! It's white, it's cold, and there's plenty of it!
It's one of those days where the sky is almost the same color as the ground... this is a clue that the snow is not done yet. :)

NICE
I forgot this song existed actually
Posted by: Kathleen | January 20, 2012 at 03:22 PM
ZMR, Jennifer?
I am probably leaving early to do a little shoveling. And I don't wanna.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 20, 2012 at 03:43 PM
ZMR, Jennifer?
Oops!
All evening activities have been canceled due to weather, so I'm having a cocktail or two. :)

OT/ Chuckie Buckets is making a mockery of your man!!!
Posted by: Jennifer | January 20, 2012 at 06:13 PM
I would say that making Chuckie Buckets all sniffy is WINNING!
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 20, 2012 at 07:11 PM
Chuckie Buckets has already been part of turning our politics into a Villager popularioty contest and cocktail party soap opera, and his attitude has always been that it is for the important, real Americans; who deign to allow us normal fucking people to vote, if we behave ourselves and elect Nice Polite Republicans.
For him to chide someone else about making a mockery of politics is disgusting. Our politics already is a mockery and you can't blame Colbert because the mirror he holds up is too accurate.
FSM, do I hate Chuckie Buckets. But at least he doesn't spit like that Matthews chump.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 20, 2012 at 07:15 PM
I lasted less than 30 seconds watching that video of Chuckie attacking Colbert. I was too embarrassed to watch anymore.

lervely post.
Thanks, Jennifer! It was a lervely morning, to be sure.

It sounds like a very lovely morning and it is important to recognise those sorts of moments when they happen.

Hi AK, It was a lovely morning!
PP, please know I am not ignoring you! I have email issues. I don't check it like I used to because my yahoo is all screwed up. I think it might be my browser. I just haven't had the time or motivation to figure out what the problem is.
The last few months I have taken great pains to write meaningful emails to friends and then they won't go through! And I don't know why. It's very aggravating so I've just been ignoring it.
If you need me, you can always call me! Or text me! Or IM me! Or message me on Facebook! Or write me a letter and mail it!
Posted by: blue girl | January 21, 2012 at 09:02 AM
I shall send you good vibrations.
Posted by: Pinko Punko | January 21, 2012 at 11:34 AM
I sent you a message on FB, PP. (Please do not seek revenge by ignoring it!) And I'll try to email again later.
Posted by: blue girl | January 21, 2012 at 12:36 PM
Pinko deserves it. His site chumps my comments. He might as well get the same treatment from the Beege.
