Rollin' On To The Bitter End

I had a meeting on the third floor of our little town's Methodist church last night.  As I pulled into the parking lot I had the radio full blast as I usually do, singing at the top of my voice.  Not until I saw the little old lady slowly making her way across the parking lot to the church door on her walker, did I realize where I was and turned the radio down.

As I parked my car I laughed and thought to myself.  Does this behavior of mine make me more of a liberal heathen?  Or Bad Company more of a conservative rock band?

It's not like I know for sure.  I don't!  Stop thinking I do!  I can prove it.  I am not mentioned at all in the Starr Report.  So there.  I'm just kind of guessing here.

I do!  I do!  Every day.  And I have. . . I have!  For a long time. 

The glitter and glam of today's toothpaste aisles just hasn't had much effect on me.  I've shown great brand loyalty to Colgate.  I think their marketing department should feature me in a TV spot.  I could do a great testimonial.  I would become famous like Jered, but I'd be way MaxFreshier.

Bobness nailed it.  I not only have a Volvo in my driveway and a New York Times on my kitchen table, I also have Colgate in my medicine cabinet!  I am a liberal through and through.  Plus, I own a ton of hip rock 'n roll records.  Even if some of them are quite conservative.

Never much noticed the hot hot hot teenage daughters and stunningly sexy MILFs of the Pepsodent families though.  Then again, I was never a teenage boy.  Those Pepsodent kids probably got more money from the tooth fairy than I did.  I think my tooth fairy must've been a socialist.

I'm not writing this post to get anything for free.  I'm not that cheap.  No I'm not!  Stop thinking that!  I feel like I have to write this post because I'm sure all of you who come to blue girl have been clicking like mad on that flashing orange Kos ad to the right and wondering why it doesn't go anywhere.  (I know how the liberals just love their advertising!)

Happy Father's Day

I got my love of music, my interest in politics and my overall demeanor from my dad.  He taught me to drive and always said that when you pass a car and needed to cut back into their lane, to make sure you could see their front tires in your rearview mirror before doing so.  I always do!  And I think of him every time I do it.  (And if you've been reading blue girl for awhile, you know that I think of him a lot!)  My dad looks like Don Meredith and I look just like my dad.

I got my compulsive need to be on time, my habit of always watching 60 Minutes and the respect I try to show to others regarding their personal lives from my stepfather.  He taught me to never order spaghetti when out on a date.  He said it was too messy and you'd look goofy trying to eat it.  So I never did!  And I always think of him when me and my husband are out to dinner and I'm trying to decide what to order.  My stepfather looks like Phil Donahue and I look nothing like my stepfather.  Which I'm sure is a huge relief to my dad.

Happy Father's Day to all you dads and stepdads out there.  Keep talking to your kids.  Even though it doesn't seem like it, they're listening.

You Can Get What You Want Or You Can Just Get Old

I really believe that.  Thing is, sometimes I wish I would've chosen more important work many years ago.

The miracle of working in advertising seems to be not dropping dead from the crazy deadlines.

Oh well.  I'm busy working on the work that I've chosen, and looking forward to the weekend.  And next week I'm going out of town for a couple of days.

I'm looking forward to slowing down and disappearing for awhile.

Worth Her Weight In Gold

I've just been accused of not returning emails fast enough.  Which is totally pshawable, but, I won't pshaw.  It's too easy.  Too obvious.

So, I didn't only return my friend's email this time lickety split, I'm also going to post it here.  I'm so busy and somewhat stressed about everything I've got going over the next week or so, that her message didn't sink in as quickly as it should have. 

But!  I just got it!  And I'm not even sure she meant it the way it sounded.  Here's what she wrote...

You want to come over July 1?  We'll lay out at the pool all day.  I've gained a little weight though.  I broke my pinky finger and I haven't been able to get much exercise.

Not really sure how that injury is hindering her exercise routine.  She's not a weight lifter.  I've never seen her lift anything heavier than a bottle of Bud Light.

That's all.  It just cracked me up.

BGWOF2006 - Update

Larry Jones (and a couple of readers via email) asked about the status of the 2006 Blue Girl Wall Of Fame.  Interesting that Larry inquired.  If memory serves, he never sent anything for The Wall of Cool.  And neither did this person or this person.  But, I'm not one to point that sort of thing out anyway, so never mind.  Oh yeah!  And this person.

It's almost done!  Well, kinda.  I thought I could just quickly paint the walls, rearrange some furniture, frame all the cool things everyone sent and then quickly hang them up.

Didn't work that way.  You see, I figured there would only be those four steps.  I neglected to consider the other eight in this neverending 12 step program.  The first step was cleaning my office.  And not just a quick clean up either.  Being the pack rat I am, I had to go through stacks of papers that I've had around for years.  If you are one to keep old phone books, slide projectors and unmarked cassette tapes in a basket under your desk, then you completely understand what I mean.  If you're not, then what you're thinking is correct.  I am crazy.

Other steps I neglected to consider were prepping the walls to paint.  Actually finding and then purchasing all the photo frames.  Not liking some frames, having to return them and go through steps 6 & 7 again.  And again.  Printing out all of the cool images that were emailed to me.  Printing them out wrong the first couple of times and then reprinting them.  Making a list of the ones that are too small and then emailing the cool people who sent them requesting larger images if that would be possible.

It'll get done and I'll do a gorgeous photo post when it is complete.  I was stressing about it for awhile, but decided just to take a deep breath and take it one day at a time.

Ouch! Dammit!

Every time the printer failed to print, my temples throbbed slightly stronger.  Every time the clients spoke mumbo jumbo, the pain that would shoot from the right side of my head all the way across to the left became unbearable.  When discovering, after numerous attempts, that old browers do not support updated software, I felt the area above my left eyebrow begin to swell.  Every time I turned around the same dilapidated structure was stopping any progress I was trying to make.
 
Bruised and battered, I decided to change the view.  I decided to make it prettier.

But now my arm hurts from all that tuckpointing and I think I feel a spider in my hair.  Must've crawled out of the ivy the one time I rested my head for just a minute when my computer crashed for the 18th time.

So tonight, comrades, I will work to tear down this wall.  Or die trying.
