The Viscount

Paul Rodgers could sing, that's for sure...

Kevin Wolf

My initial reaction is to say Bad Company is a conservative rock band. But one or two of their tunes are guilty pleasures of mine and I'm definitely a liberal heathen.

So now I'm just confused.

Thanks, BG!

Al, I'm not sure you would think this way or not, but, I always considered his voice really sexy. :)

While I always considered "The Who" the ultimate "Guy's Band" -- I always thought of Bad Company in that way, too. Although they weren't on the same level at all as The Who. -- At least to me.

Kevin! I know what you mean. "Heathen probably beats out conservative" though.

Much like rock smashes scissors.

:)

And a noodly RAmen for Friday as well.

Though I always thought of Rogers' bands as "chick music". Other than "Shootin' Star", most guys I know couldn't stand his stuff.

He definitely made Bad Co what they were, though. I saw them w/o him and the songs were gawdawful. Lame, cheap and uninspired pop rock. Just IMO...

Ha-ha!!

Maybe they were "no one's" music!!

How funny.

So can Michael Bolton, Mariah Carrie, that, a good band doth not make. Although I have no issues with Bad Co. I imagine you would have trouble wrestling them away from the conservatives - if they will claim Bob Dylan, they're takin BC as well.

Whilst on conservative rock - I was talking with a basist I used to jam with and was telling him about the list and jokingly said, "that would be like calling [my old band] Nackt a conservative band." His response, "It wasn't?"

If the link hadn't died on me I would link one of my own "conservative" rock songs.

paul rodgers now sings along with the former members of queen, so his position in my mind is torn between

almostinfamous

uh, dont know why exactly that got truncated but it should go: his position in my mind is torn between 'old fogey' and 'awesome1!'

The Viscount

Not.

But The Viscountess agrees with you you. I think he is great, and Bad Company was an example of a good (not great) 70's band. As a friend of mine once said, "ever notice that almost everyone likes them, but they are nobody's favorite?" The 70's was littered with bands like that - you couldn't turn on the radio and NOT hear a good song. You can still hear the same songs today, and while many of them after hundreds of spins have lost their appeal, that wasn't the case when they were brand new.

So can Michael Bolton,

I beg to differ. Michael Bolton hits the notes, but what he does isn't "singing." It is more like vomiting on key...

Mariah Carey - I don't go for her style of music, but she can sing.

Michael Bains

I think The Viscount makes a great point.

No one has ever accused Dylan of having a good, much less great!, singing voice, but dude is Awesome because of his 1) lyrics, 2) style, and 3) persona.

Even if he is an ultra-right-wing-conservative-whackjob.

In my mind Bad Company fits in with the bad company of Boston & Foreigner. Yeck.

But, on to other things. BG, will you join us?
