For ZRM and Jennifer, songs I discovered on an album I bought because of Can We Still Be Friends. I'd sit in front of my stereo with my headphones on turned all the way up, on the floor, holding the album in my hands, staring at and analyzing the artwork and the lyrics until my mom would make me turn it off and go downstairs to do something that was probably dumb and stupid that I didn't want to do!
The 14 year old blogger in me loved it cuz it was sorta lub, dub, lub, dub and sorta zoom, zip, hiccup, drip, ding, dong, crunch, crack, bark, meow, whinnie, quack.
And the 14 year old mush in me loved this one:
So, so sad. So *Sniffle* *Snort* *Squish* *Squeek* *Sniff*
The 14 year old singer and liberal in me loved, loved, loved, loved this one into infinity.
And the 47 year old singer and liberal still does. And you will, too, if you're still open to discovery. Put your headphones on and turn it all the way up, like I'm doing right now. Stare at the lyrics and analyze them for as long as you want. I'm a mom and I'm telling you it's not dumb and stupid at all... A bell in your head will ring!
See Ms. Malone, she lives alone
She spends another quiet evening alone
Sits in her study and stares at the phone
And a bell in her head will ring!
All the children sing
All the dancers start to sway in time
The orchestra begins to play
Somebody pours the wine
The sun and moon collide
Isn´t gravity a funny thing
The universe explodes apart
All the children sing!
Of Mr. Malloy
He´s always seen himself as one of the boys
He thinks that men are tough and women are toys
But a bell in his head will ring!
All the children sing!
All the birds are chirping harmony
The scent of love is in the air
Sunset on the sea
The Angel of the Lord
Just declared we aren´t worth a thing
The galaxy is null and void
All the children sing!
Crawled across a thousand miles of desert sand
Looking from an answer from a Holy Man
And this is what he told me with a wave of his hand
He said, "A bell in your head will ring!"
Here´s to the China man, wise and old
Here´s to the Eskimo, brave and cold
Here´s to the Jew in the holy land
Here´s to the Arab in his caravan
Here´s to the African, strong and proud
Here´s to the Redneck, good and loud
Here´s one to you and there´s one more thing
A bell in your head will ring!
All the children sing!
All the dancers start to sway in time
The orchestra begins to play
Somebody pours the wine
The sun and moon collide
Isn´t gravity a funny thing
The universe explodes apart
All the children sing!
Everybody sing!
Somebody pours the wine
Now you've got my attention.

Is there ever a better cover version than William Shatner doing "Mr. Tambourine Man"?
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | November 23, 2011 at 02:43 PM
Yes, his version of "Rocket Man".
BG, great post. I don't have as much time to do it as I used to, but I love to throw on the headphones and listen to an album when I can.

Yes, a great post! And again, I do miss buying albums and going on that musical journey only to find something even better than what I bought it for!!
Also, a TR aside... this songa> always makes me think of him. It sounds like it should be from the 70's. I'll hear the beginning and still go, "Is this Todd??" It's got a little ELO, Evil Woman thrown in, along with some Al Stewart, Year of the Cat vibes...

I don't.
Thundra! Aren't you supposed to be packing and driving?? Hmmm?? Now turn off the music and go pack!

Yes, but I had to put up a blog post.
Remember, my winetop is dead. And so access to computing and such as could get very sketchy.

Jennifer, that was a perfect description of that song. And I have to admit, I've never heard it before!
The Skimmer used to love Al Stewart.
Thunder! Do what Jennifer says and get your behind moving! :)

Not that I have any room to talk. I still need to go buy wine for tomorrow and for some reason I'm still putting it off. And it's a somewhat fun thing to do!

"For Tomorrow", sure, BG.

btw; Since I am working backwards through my vinyl, I have gotten to teh Utopia/Rundgren section, and have quite a few LPs of Runt getting digitamized....it makes me think back, and I have seen him live with Utopia opening for The Tubes, and solo back in the 80s, and lately in 2004 when he toured with Joe Jackson and Ethel.

Was it ever a good Todd show, ZRM? I was always disappointed by his concerts. Didn't make me love him any less, though.

The Utopia one was good; the one with Joe Jackson was excellent. He did "Black Maria" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as encores, with Jackson and the Ethel folks joining in.

"Was it ever a good Todd show?" Heretic! In my personal experience: 7/4/1975 (Nelson Ledges, OH); 3/10/1977 (Akron OH); 12/31/1977 (Richfield, OH); 8/5/1978 (SF, CA);
For all you Utopians: What is this? http://g.co/maps/d4yw4
