Tears and Fears throughout the Years

We were looking through my high school yearbooks at my mom's last night. My nieces were getting a big kick out of the pictures of my big 80s hair. My big 80s hair playing volleyball. My big 80s hair in the Wizard of Oz. My big 80s hair asleep in class.

Yes, there is a picture of me with my big 80s hair sitting at my desk asleep in front of a boy with his 80s hair who is also asleep.

Kind of like this picture of two guys I don't remember, but different.


Thank you, yearbook staff!

The yearbook from my junior year had an absolutely wonderful... I'm not sure what you'd call it... poem? written by an "annonymous" senior and printed in the back of the yearbook. As one last gift to my family, I did a dramatic reading of it on our way home from Cleveland today. The Skimmer and Blue Kid loved it. After all, I was a thespian!

To the Class of 1981

The memories that gather round us will become dimmer through the years, and leave us only our tears, and we will remember our fears

The fear of growing old

The fear of selling our souls

And of things we might not be getting told

The sharing of new experiences, the excitement of strange occurances, and the feeling of closeness just because of nearness

Knowing each year brings the confrontation near

And each tear brings us closer to our fear.

But the joys of the years we've been together, and braved all weather will never be lost, and hopefully worth the cost.

All of the failures and so-called wins

And all of the "I don't cares" just to see the tears begin

All of the plans and all of the dreams to go to far away lands

And midnight schemes

All of the romance and one night stands

We've been through it all.

All of the climbs and all of the falls

All of the school until we thought we were full

All of the studying for tests, just trying to do our best

All of the love we felt and all of the raw deals we were dealt

Through all of the fights and all of the "all nights"

It all, including the bad and the good, has brought us closer to the light.

I am beside myself with joy right now because I’ve brought this brownie into the world. And soon I hope it will be in your world, too: The Kahlua Mousse Brownie.

The fine artiste and I talked blogging for awhile and I asked her, "Are you obsessed with it yet?" And she said, "Just a tad!"

And I thought maybe you'd like to become just a tad obsessed with her blog, too. I mean, she'll fit right in with the crowd that visits here.
